Smart Villages is the intelligent digital transformation of communities in the Alpine region. Various solutions like a digital platform or a toolbox should make it possible for people to stay in the Alpine regions and find jobs there.
Rural communities in the Alpine region suffer from a lack of jobs, a small supply of services and slow growing innovations. This leads to emigration of high qualified workers. Digitalization would be a beginning to get out of this situation. However, in the last few years the gap between rural and urban areas has increased considerably. Through the “smart villages” project the communities should become more attractive for citizens to live and to work. Regional officials will bring together politics, economy, science and society and an increase in information and communication technologies as well as new innovations.
- The “Smart village” is examined by regional analysts.
- A digital platform for information exchange is created.
- A toolbox was developed to improve networks and services through a better utilization of knowledge.
- Based on transnational experiences, suggestions for facilitating the realization of the projects are mentioned.
The aim of “smart villages” is to establish a connection between the city and the countryside. The target group consists of local authorities, SMEs, public service providers, regional development agencies and NGOs.
