NEFI – New Energy for Industry shows pathways for the DECARBONISATION of manufacturing and energy-intensive industry by technology ‘Made in Austria’. NEFI is an innovation network of science, technology providers and companies.
The switch to renewable energy to achieve the European climate protection goals is a major challenge for the Austrian manufacturing and energy-intensive industry. On the other hand, however, this switch to renewable energy is a great opportunity for Austrian technology providers to expand their market leadership position worldwide and make a significant contribution to securing Austria as an industrial hotspot. The main goal of the innovation network NEFI – New Energy for Industry is the decarbonisation of the industrial landscape in Austria. To achieve this goal, NEFI connects industrial key-players with research institutes and politics to develop and roll out technologies and to stimulate the transfer of knowledge.
By NEFI sub projects in six fields of innovation, key technologies for the decarbonisation of the industrial energy system are researched. In all of those sub projects, digitalization plays a major role, as it opens new possibilities in increasing the flexibility of our energy system and industrial processes. Currently, around 100 NEFI partners are researching in 17 NEFI sub project with a funding of 25.6 Mill. EUR.
The NEFI innovation network built around a consortium of AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. Montanuniversität Leoben, OÖ Energiesparverband und Business Upper Austria brings together wide-ranging expertise in the fields of energy research and project implementation. NEFI is a ‘Flagship region energy’ funded by the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund. The innovation network is centered at the strongly industrialized regions of Upper Austria and Styria, which provide additional funding for the showcase region NEFI.
