Upper Austria

The Agenda 21 implements concrete projects together with citizens. Therefore a network in Upper Austria is created.
The aim of this project is to strengthen sustainability through regional innovations and empowerment of the actors. 1/3 of the 440 Upper Austrian communities are already part of the network. Based on international programs of sustainability (Agenda 2030, Agenda 21), they work together with citizens to develop and implement concrete projects. Four regional managers for sustainability advise and oversee villages and regions. More than 100 regional citizens have already received special training to support their creative input. The Agenda 21 network continuously implements new scopes for design, e.g. citizen councils, youth councils, Systemic Consensus, Design Thinking, Open Innovation or a public cockpit as a digital tool for participation. In the last 20 years, with the integration of 15,000 active contributors, over 1500 projects were put into practice, e.g. coworking in the countryside, food co-ops, life quality in the higher age, digital country life or local cooperative suppliers and restaurant methods.
